Doing Hard Things

I have come to the realization that I have totally failed my kids in teaching them the value and reward of hard work. I have easily slipped into the American way of doing everything for them and trying to make their lives as easy and comfortable as possible. Good intentions paved this road. After all, I just wanted them to enjoy themselves and have opportunities I did not. But this is not the road I want them to go down. It is time to bring the car to a screeching halt.

Last week, I began to read to them the book "Do Hard Things" by Alex and Brett Harris. This book is intended for teenagers but I have heard great things about it and read that other mothers read it to their younger kids. They said it made a huge difference in their lives and a lasting impression on the lives of their kids.

We are only on chapter two and already my kids are brimming with ideas. They have decided (and I wholeheartedly concur) that they don't have to be teenagers to make a difference. They want to start their own blog challenging kids their age to make a difference in their community. I am so excited and proud. We have a lot of work and research to do to get this off the ground. Stayed tune and I will share all the details with you!

Enjoy~
Shari
